When I was just a little boy, I used to think Christmas as the season for new dress, shoes and toys. My family woke up early in the morning and attended the Simbang gabi without missing even a day. We roamed around the neighborhood at night singing carols to every family home and with a plastic bag on our sides, we knocked at the doors of our neighbors wishing them a merry Christmas and a Happy new year. That was my Christmas 5 decades ago, and today as I asked my kids to do the same, they were just laughing at me. Why roam around the neighborhood when they have more gifts already? It’s not the cost of the gift that matters but the fun and joy of sharing. It’s only during the Christmas season when every person is entitled to receive a gift from a stranger whether he is rich or poor. My Christmas will never be the same again.
